Yesterday, the LA Times ran an article highlighting Mayor Villaraigosa's push to create a competitive bidding process for private operators to run 50 new schools in Los Angeles, as well as hundred of failing schools within LAUSD. The measure, that the school board will address next month, would allow charter school organizations, or other non-profits to bid on, and run, these schools. As you may expect, United Teachers Los Angeles is thoroughly opposed to this shift in the status quo, despite the fact that the union would have the right to bid on perspective schools in this process.
